First, I want to wish you all the web success for an exciting, healthy and profitable 2008. And now for my Top Ten:

1. Subscriptions will be the currency for social networks. The fees will be modest, but they will continue to replace more conventional advertising streams. For example, Skype and Twitter will add subscription charges for enhanced features like groups and they will compete for top social network status as the useless applications, intrusive advertising and annoying emails from Facebook continue to turn off users.

2. Social networks will be the key driver of brand success as consumers increasingly trust each other’s opinions and distrust advertising and corporate propaganda.

3. Mobile will be the “fast food” of the year. You are on the move and are hungry for instant access to information. iPhones and similar devices that deliver true mobile Internet access will replace laptops that everyone hates to carry.

4. Companies including YouTube, blip.tv and Seesmic will expand and cooperate to include group collaboration and meetings.

5. 2008 will be the year of collaboration and intellectual partnership, internally and externally. Companies will start forming synergistic groups that work toward improving or bundling products and services that will result in saving time, money, work effort and brand reputation.

Email Marketing Lesson: Privacy Policies and Email Marketing

For those of you who know me you??ve gotten the message that I am passionate about customer privacy. What kind of an Email Marketer would I be if I wasn??t?

First off, if you don’t have a privacy policy on your website stop reading this Email Marketing article and get one. I mean it, it is important.

If you do have a privacy policy, here are some things you will want to make sure your privacy policy covers Japanese Closet includes:

-How you treat Email addresses that are entrusted to you (when someone subscribes to your Email newsletter list or sends you an Email message).

-How people can take back their Email addresses and get off your list (un-subscribing).

-Your mailing address and Food And Nutrition Issues Of Importance In India Email address.

Why the mailing address and contact Email address?

It is not a law or anything but it just makes sense. Your willingness to share your postal address and some way for website and email visitors to contact you says a lot about your company. It also falls in line with the Can-Spam act (US Legislation) regarding what has to be included in Email marketing messages.

Lots of companies don’t think privacy policies are important. They should. In some countries posting a privacy policy that is accessible to the public is either considered good business practice or law. Canada, for example, has specific privacy legislation. Certain types of businesses have to post privacy policies that the public can access (the best place for this is a website/Blog).

And if your home country doesn’t have any privacy legislation posting a privacy policy is still a good idea. It shows:

Search Engine Spiders Lost Without Guidance - Post This Sign!

The robots.txt file is an exclusion standard required by all web crawlers/robots to tell them what files and directories that you want them to stay OUT of on your site. Not all crawlers/bots follow the exclusion standard and will continue crawling your site anyway. I like to call them “Bad Bots” or trespassers. We block them by IP exclusion which is another story entirely.

This is a very simple overview of robots.txt basics for webmasters. For a complete and thorough lesson, visit http://www.robotstxt.org/

To see the proper format for a somewhat standard robots.txt file look directly below. That file should be American Legion Car Rental Discount the root of the domain because that is where the crawlers expect it to be, not in some secondary directory.

Below is the proper format for a robots.txt file —–>

User-agent: *
Disallow: /cgi-bin/
Disallow: /images/
Disallow: /group/

User-agent: msnbot
Crawl-delay: 10

User-agent: Teoma
Crawl-delay: 10

User-agent: Slurp
Crawl-delay: 10

User-agent: aipbot
Disallow: /

User-agent: BecomeBot
Disallow: /

User-agent: psbot
Disallow: /

——–> End of robots.txt file

This tiny text file is saved as a plain text document and ALWAYS with the name “robots.txt” in the root of your domain.

A quick review of the listed information from the robots.txt file above follows. The “User Agent: MSNbot” is from MSN, Slurp is from Yahoo and Teoma is from AskJeeves. The others listed are “Bad” bots that crawl very fast and to nobody’s benefit but their own, so we ask them to stay out entirely. The * asterisk is a wild card that means “All” crawlers/spiders/bots should stay out of that group of files or directories listed.

The bots given the instruction “Disallow: /” means How To I Get Rid Of Blackheads should stay out entirely and those with “Crawl-delay: 10″ are those that crawled our site too quickly and caused it to bog down and overuse the server resources. Google crawls more slowly than the others and doesn’t require that instruction, so is not specifically listed in the above robots.txt file. Crawl-delay instruction is only needed on very large sites with hundreds or thousands of pages. The wildcard asterisk * applies to all crawlers, bots and spiders, including Googlebot.

Those we provided that “Crawl-delay: 10″ instruction to were requesting as many as 7 pages every second and so we asked them to slow down. The number you see is seconds and you can change it to suit your server capacity, based on their crawling rate. Ten seconds between page requests is far more leisurely and stops them from asking for more pages than your server can dish up.

(You can discover how fast robots and spiders are crawling by looking at your raw server logs - which show pages requested by precise times to within a hundredth of a second - available from your web host or ask your web or IT person. Your server logs can be found in the root directory if you have server access, you can usually download compressed server log files by calendar day right off your server. You’ll need a utility that can expand compressed files to open and read those plain text raw server log files.)

To see the contents of any robots.txt file just type robots.txt after any domain name. If they have that file up, you will see it displayed as a text file in your web browser. Click on the link below to see that file for Amazon.com

http://www.Amazon.com/robots.txt

You can see the contents of any website robots.txt file that way.

The robots.txt shown above is what we currently use at Publish101 Web Content Distributor, just launched in May of 2005. We did an extensive case study and published a series of articles on crawler behavior and indexing delays known as the Google Sandbox. That Google Sandbox Case Study is highly instructive on many levels for webmasters everywhere about the importance of this often ignored little text file.

One thing we didn’t expect to glean from the research involved in indexing delays (known as the Google Sandbox) was the importance of robots.txt files to quick and efficient crawling by the spiders from the major search engines and the number of heavy crawls from bots that will do no earthly good to the site owner, yet crawl most sites extensively and heavily, straining servers to the breaking point with requests for pages coming as fast as 7 pages per second.

We discovered in our launch of the new site that Google and Yahoo will crawl the site whether or not you use a robots.txt file, but MSN seems to REQUIRE it before they will begin crawling at all. All of the search engine robots seem to request the file on a regular basis to verify that it hasn’t changed.

Then when you DO change it, they will stop crawling for brief periods and repeatedly ask for that robots.txt file during that time without crawling any additional pages. (Perhaps they had a list of pages to visit that included the directory or files you have instructed them to stay out of and must now adjust their crawling schedule to eliminate those files from their list.)

Most webmasters instruct the bots to stay out of “image” directories and the “cgi-bin” directory as well as any directories containing private or proprietary files intended only for users of an intranet or password protected sections of your site. Clearly, you should direct the bots to stay out of any private areas that you don’t want indexed by the search engines.

The importance of robots.txt is rarely discussed by average webmasters and I’ve even had some of my client business’ webmasters ask me what it is and how to implement it when I tell them how important it is to both site security and efficient crawling by the search engines. This should be standard knowledge by webmasters at substantial companies, but this illustrates how little attention is paid to use of robots.txt.

The search engine spiders really do want your guidance and this tiny text file is the best way to provide crawlers and bots a clear signpost to warn off trespassers and protect private property - and to warmly welcome invited guests, such as the big three search engines while asking them nicely to stay out of private areas.

Google and Understanding Page Rank and What it Means to YOU

Google Page Rank is an important measurement tool of how you are ranked by Google. PageRank is their perception of the quality and creditability of a in individual web site/page. Google reports this as a number from 0-10 (10 being the best). So if your web page and your competitors web site has the same relevance - then whomever has the higher PageRank gets the better ranking. This is why PageRank is so important.

There is near unanimous agreement Bobs Carpet Mart Web Site PageRank is primarily determined by the number of web sites or pages that are linking to your site. Google considers these Back Pain With Pleurisy as a vote of confidence. They are always seeking relevancy and value. They also rank the “links” to you and believe me not all links are created equal. In other words, the more credibility that the link has, the more important it is to your ranking. How is this credibility determined? They use their PageRank (of course) to determine the link value. As an example, let’s say that your best friend Mark has a web site or blog and he links to you. Let’s also say that Mark’s PageRank is 3 and has limited inbound links. This link from your buddy will certainly help you because Google loves inbound links but it help you more if you can find 100 or more Marks web sites with a PageRank of 3 to link to you.

If you can get a single link form a web site that has a Page Range of 6, it’ll help you more than 100 Mark’s sites. Why, because the PageRank 6 site is considered more valuable and relevant. From my research, it appears that Google PageRank falls into four broad categories:

0-3: New sites or sites with very minimal links

4-5: Popular sites with a fair amount of inbound links

6: Very popular sites that have hundreds of links, many of them quality links

7-10: Usually media brands (USAToday.com), big companies or A-list bloggers.

Now, it’s important to note that PageRank is believed to be calculated on a logarithmic scale. What this roughly means is that the difference between PR4 and PR5 is likely 5-10 times than the difference between PR3 and PR4. So, there are likely over 100 times as many web pages with a PageRank of 2 than there are with a PageRank of 4. This means that if you get to a PageRank of 5 or so, you’re likely well into the top 0.1% of all websites out there. If most of your competition is ranking around with a Michelin Tires Corporate or PR3, you’re ahead of the pack.

How do you determine your PageRank?

There are at least two ways to figure out what your approximate PageRank is. One, you can download the Google Toolbar (the PageRank feature is not turned on by default, so you’d have to enable it after installation).

The other way is to use the Page Rank Calculator. There several very good free calculators on the net and some require no registration. Check them out and if you are a PR6, please email me immediately. It’s quick, free and requires no registration. Check it out. If you have a PR6 or higher,

Why is this important?

Most web site owners are paranoid about their Google ranking. By knowing your page ranking will help you to make the changes or additions to your site to improve your content and value to not only Google but to those other web sites that potentially link to your site. As almost every writer about Internet marketing or SEO will agree that great CONTENT and FRESHNESS are key to your overall success on the Internet. Get Ranked!

What Are Pros and Cons of Search PPC Advertising?

It is better to know beforehand advantages and disadvantages of any system you use. It is foolhardy to try a thing without knowing both sides of it.

Like anything else, pay per click advertising has advantages and disadvantages.

Traffic: PPC provides you with instant visitors.Your ad is immediately visible and clickable. That means visitors within minutes. PPC is matchless in this aspect.

You Control Advertisement: It is entirely up to you when you want your ad to be shown, where you want your ad to be shown. You choose the price and you choose the Bugeye Tires It is entirely your game. you are master of your campaign. You can track and monitor your ad results and modify accordingly. You can also choose the geographical area or type of websites you intend to target.

Targeted Visitors: Because the searchers are already looking for something related to your product or site and your advertisement would be shown for relevant keywords only, you get a set of highly charged and targeted visitors who are more likely to convert into customers.

Pay Only For Click: There are no charges for ad impressions or ad view. You would pay only when somebody clicks your ad. That means you pay for visitors to your website and not for ad display.

Easy To Use: Even a newbie can set up PPC campaigns within minutes. You only need to write an advertisement and choose the relevant keywords. The process itself is self guiding.

Minimum Website Inputs Required: Conventional search marketing method emphasized on developing content and adding pages so that your site stands out from your competitors. But with PPC, you need to compete with your fellow bidders only and you can get a Osha Welding placement for your choice of keywords. That is a great advantage.

Disadvantages

Its Not Free: You need to have a separate budget for your PPC campaign. This could be a huge disadvantage for small business owners and starters when compared with free methods of traffic generation.

Visitors would come through click and you pay for each click. While few of them may like tocome back but in case of PPC, generally the traffic stops the moment campaign stops.

Learning Curve: While setting up an ad is effortless for the new person also but it takes time and experience to know what works. There is a danger of great losses initially.

Competition: As PPC grows in popularity, more and more advertisers and big houses are coming with big budgets. Incresing competition means bid price war which will push prices high enough and beyond the reach of small business owners.

Good Conversion Mechanism: Most of the searchers are looking for information and may not be interested in what you are selling. It would be a wasted money if visitors goes without any action on your website. Therefore, you need to place a good mechanism to convert your visitors into leads or customers. You need to optimize your site for that maximum effect.

Pay Per Click advertising is useful for getting quick traffic. However, it is important to see what you can spend and how you would work to gain maximum from your campaign. It is important that you make more money from the PPC traffic than you spend on it. That would turn your PPC campaign into powerful and profitable advertising method.

Some Things to Consider When Choosing an Affordable Hosting Reseller

It’s a given that if you’re looking for a web space reseller, you’ll look for an affordable hosting reseller. Practicality takes priority in every purchase, and no matter what you intend to do with your web space, or the features that come with the web space you get, cost is the first thing that you should take into consideration. Refer to the following checklist when shopping around for cheap web space:

1. How much are you ready to spend? Owning your own web space has pretty much become a fixture in the reality of modern enterprise, and if you’re planning to get a host for business purposes, you’d better be ready to shell out the kind of money that will buy you the features and the quality of service that you need. A truly noteworthy affordable hosting reseller will be able to help you maximize your spending capacity.

2. What are your immediate needs? Can you cut down on a few features that may seem “cool” at the onset, but you won’t really need? Browsing around mailing lists, message boards, and other online forums, you may find recommendations for features that are classified as “must-haves,” but really isn’t a must-have for you at all.

One example of this is multiple domain hosting. Multiple domain hosting is the capability to host and distribute a limited (or unlimited, depending on the kind of hosting package that you get) number of domains in a single web space - for example, you can have both mywebspace.org and mysecondwebspace.net in just one web account! Some resellers offer that, and it’s good for people who want to maintain multiple sites, or become resellers as well.

But if you only plan to have one small website, which uses only one domain, you can significantly streamline your spendings if you seek out a reseller that doesn’t offer multiple domain hosting. If you only want to host a personal web space, you may even do away with domain hosting altogether, and settle for a VERY cheap reseller who’ll just let you “park” in his or her domain with only a subdomain or subfolder to your name!

3. Are there any good promos going around? Now this is something you’ll have to keep your eyes out for. New reseller outfits often drive down their prices as part of a “promo” package, in order to attract new customers. A discounted shiny new one-year package, or an “early adopter” advantage, is always easy on the wallet. Some people even move from reseller to reseller as soon as the next big promo comes along - until they finally decide upon an affordable hosting reseller to stick with for the long haul.

SEO Mentors “Passport To Wealth” How To Choose the Right Keywords

Every entrepreneur who owns a website, wants their site to be recognized by the search engines. Search engine optimization is the process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to a website from search engines with out paying for the advertising. Exposure, and traffic to your website automatically means sales right? In most cases that is correct, however carefully choosing the right keywords allows us to get our website seen by the proper target audience.

Organizing and actively building the right keywords is not a science but a diligent task that will allow your site to achieve the best online results. If you have a home business opportunity, you would naturally assume your keyword should be home business, or work from home. Newbies, that have no mentoring or coaching, will spend time trying to optimize and link their websites to these keywords. This is a fatal mistake that will likely not have there site go very far. These keywords are heavily hit and the competition is so broad that it is very difficult to master these keywords before they will get burnt out. Even top mentors in search engine optimization understands the enormous task one is taking on with these keywords. Most will stop in their efforts before ever mastering a high ranking under these keywords.

So how does one know that there keywords are the right choice for there business, or service. There is some steps to insure that your keywords will not only target your interested group, but also give you the highest ranking possible. When starting your keywords here is some steps to adhere to:

First evaluate your opportunity or service. What type of audience do you attract currently? What type of audience do you want to attract? What makes your business successful? What makes you unique? Its sounds like a broad resource but it is not. Think about it, how are you going to attract the right type of people unless you really evaluate your business, product or service. Get into your customers mindset. Find out what your potential clients are searching for, and work your keywords accordingly.

1.) Keyword Phrases - If you are working online then you found your mentors or business through the search engine. Think about it did you type one keyword or a group of keywords. When consumers are seeking online they are narrowing there search by adding a 2 - 3 word keyword. Your keyword list should be no different. Start your list and attempt not to use one keyword when creating your list. Use a keyword phrase.

2.) Is anyone searching for your keyword - You think you have found it. The perfect keyword that is going to drive a flood of ready to buy customers to you. Not always, how sure are you that people are looking for your site. There is some great free software pieces to help you identify if your keyword is good. Do a search on the net to find a software that will assist you in seeking how many people are searching for your keyword.

3.) Competition - Great keyword, ton of hits are coming to your site. Not always.. how much competition is out there. What do you have to do to beat that top position. Research the search engines to see how you will have to build your site, and handle linking to fully beat the competition.

4.) Good Keyword Content - You want to make sure that your opportunity can have the right content to properly handle your keyword. For an example as you are writing your content make sure that your keyword makes sense. Don’t throw a keyword in there and attempt to have it make sense. First and it has to be set up so that your potential clients understands it, the search engine ranking is secondary.

Search engine optimization can bring a flood of traffic and customers to you. Making sure that you have formulated the right keyword is the best start. Your keywords are where your customers will find you. Everything else you do will formulate around your keywords. Take some time and care with your list. Talk to your mentors about your choices. Once you are confident in your keywords. Continue your SEO journey.

6 Strategies To Get The Most Out of Google AdWords Advertising

Paid advertising such as Google AdWords is a lucrative way to bring targeted traffic to your website fast. You just need to set up an account with a small activation fee of $5 and you can start bidding on keywords and gain ranking in the SERPs on the right side of the organic search engine listings instantly. Everytime someone clicks on your ad, you pay Google a few cents or dollars depending how much you are willing to pay as maximum cost per click(cpc) for your different keywords.

While it’s easy to start advertising on Google AdWords, it’s not easy as just creating an ad, get clicks and sales start pouring in. Always remember this so that you don’t get deceived. Below are 6 strategies for you to get the most out of Google AdWords advertising.

(1) Getting Clicks

I’ve experienced it before and the problem most people are confronted with is to get sufficient amount of clicks that can convert into a sale for instance. The key to get clicks is to give people a compelling reason to check out your offer. You don’t have enough room to write a long ad so your primary objective is to get people to click on your offer among all the rest. Some people might not even know you are selling something until they click and get to your site and they don’t need to know that because your sales page is going to do the rest if it has attractive and powerful sales copy.

(2) Higher Bids

Next important thing is you need to bid high enough so that your ad appears among the top. I’ve found that you can still get a decent number of clicks even though you are on the second or third page of the search engine results for highly competitive terms. For less competitive, more targeted and cheaper keywords, you can appear on the first page, usually the most recommended. It’s very important to test which keywords are most profitable for you in terms of clicks and conversions. If a keyword isn’t getting clicks at all and you have bid high enough, most probably, your ad is not attractive in generating clicks. On the other hand, if you are getting many clicks and no conversion, your sales letter might not be doing its job properly. Perhaps, you need to tweak it. A sale for every 50 or 100 visitors is generally considered good on the Internet. That’s a 2% conversion for every 50 visitors and a 1% conversion for every 100 visitors. Everything above that is very good.

(3) Creating Different AdGroups

To get the most out of Google AdWords, you need to create different AdGroups for each keyword and ensure that your keyword is highly targeted, hence improving your conversion. It’s much work than just slapping one AdGroup, one ad and one maximum cost per click(cpc) for say 100 keywords. With different AdGroups, you can have different ads, different maximum cost per click(cpc). One of the main reason to create different AdGroups, is that you can add your targeted keyword phrase in your ad, be it the title or the description. It has been proven that people are most inclined to click on ads that contain the exact keywords they are looking for, so this is a good reason for you to create keyword-rich ads.

(4) Keyword Status

With Google AdWords, you no longer have disabled status keywords, on hold status keywords, trial status keywords and normal status keywords. You just have active or inactive keywords now. For inactive keywords, usually you will see a message like this “1 keyword(s) are currently inactive. These keywords are marked in the status column below. Improve their quality through optimization, delete them, or raise the keywords’ maximum CPCs to the minimum bids indicated. (Raising the bids will activate the keywords.)”

Next to the inactive keyword, you will see something like “Inactive Increase quality or bid $1.00 to activate” or “Inactive Increase quality or bid $5.00 to activate” but it can also be other bid values. Usually, I just leave it inactive if it costs too much to activate and I delete it. This new method of keyword bidding evaluation is much more interesting than the previous method because most of the keywords are active and showing now, hence better advertising.

(5) Keyword Matching Options

If you are selling specific products, use exact match and phrase match for your keywords. With exact match, you just need to put square brackets between your keywords for eg [sports cars], hence your ad will only appear to people searching for that exact keyword phrase. Phrase match is a bit the same as exact match but double quotes are used instead of square brackets, for eg “sports cars”. This keyword phrase with double quotes will only appear to people searching for that exact keyword phrase plus any other keyword combined with sports cars at the beginning for eg “red sports cars” but not “sports cars red”. You also have negative keywords where you just put a minus sign in front of the keyword that you don’t want your ad to appear for eg -free. All people who type the word “free” in their searches won’t trigger your ads. The negative keywords applies mostly to phrase match and broad match which we are going to discuss.

The last one, the broad match, using keywords with nothing around it, is usually not recommended if you are selling specific products because you might not get very targeted visitors. For eg, if you use the keyword phrase “sports cars” as broad match, your ad might appear for people searching for “sports” or “cars”.

(6) Google Search and Content Network

You can also use Google search network such as AOL, Ask Jeeves, Netscape, Earthlink, Compuserve amongst others to get your ads appear on them too as well as Google content network, which represents all the sites that have Google AdSense on them.(You can read more about adsense at http://www.zineguru.com/article54.htm and open an account at http://www.google.com/adsense.) To enable these options, you just need to put a tick in the checkbox next to your campaign number and click on “edit settings” at the top of the campaign list. Then you can put a tick in the checkboxes for search and content network.

In fact, all the AdWords publishers that have allowed their ads to be syndicated in the content network, will appear in the form of adsense ads on other webmasters’ sites. If your ad is related to a specific topic, it can appear on some of them. If people click on the adsense ads, you pay Google according to your maximum cost per click(cpc), generally a bit less and Google pays a percentage to the webmaster. This is how it works. Generally, if you let your ads syndicated on the content network and if your ad is good and your bid, high enough, you can get interesting clicks. You might even be the only ad in the adsense space of the related site just because with the new Google AdSense rules, sometimes the highest paying ad can be the only one displayed even in a block usually comprised of 4 ads. Hence, it will fill the entire unit giving your ad more space and exposure. Less competing ads means more clicks for you.

How To Get Started With Google AdWords

If you want to get started with Google AdWords, sign up an account with them at http://www.google.com/adwords and conduct an extensive keyword research related to your business and start bidding on your keywords with your different AdGroups. You can use Yahoo! Search Marketing keyword research tool previously known as Overture at http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion.

Due to the fact that your ad is new, you will have to start generating clicks and increasing its value because Google looks also at the click through rate(ctr) to help determine your positions. Your maximum cost per click(cpc) might not be the highest but if your ad is getting more clicks than your competitors, your position will shoot up. So a bit smart marketing if you want. You might try to put a higher bid initially and generate clicks and after awhile, lower your bids to a reasonable amount because your ad might still be in a decent position due to the click through rate(ctr). In addition, I advise you to have a daily budget above the recommended one to ensure that your ads are displayed everytime. If Google recommends say $5 daily budget, put it $10 or even $20. This does necessarily mean that you will spend that amount of money daily although you can. It’s just a precaution to make sure that your ads are delivered well. You might not even meet the initial $5 if you are not getting clicks.

Conclusion

Google AdWords is a lot about testing and tracking which campaigns, AdGroups and keywords are working better for you and in the end, if you have a working campaign, stick to it and monitor it. Patience is important in pay per click advertising like AdWords. You might not see instant results but don’t give up until you see some results be it a sale or an ad producing clicks. But be prepared to blow a few bucks because this is how you are going to learn ie by testing and tracking. Google AdWords is an additional source of valuable traffic and can’t be ignored.

Good luck and happy advertising.
